Pennsylvania kids need your help
The Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers
Association has been helping to introduce kids to the
outdoors since 1984. Each year at the Eastern Sports &
Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, POWA holds a
sportsman’s auction to raise funds for youth educational
opportunities. These monies are granted to sportsman’s
groups, schools, nature centers, boy scouts, and a
multitude of other organizations to fund outdoor
programs for youth.
Since the first auction in 1984, POWA has raised well
over $350,000 and every penny has been given away. Every
item sold is a donation by members, supporting members,
friends and vendors at the show. There are no
commissions or fees so every penny earned is another
penny to help young people learn about and enjoy the
outdoors.
Over the years, POWA has received more and more requests
for grants, making it harder each year to raise the
necessary funds. Here’s where you can help.
Simply put, we need stuff! Have you written a book? Send
us an autographed copy. Do you have an outstanding
photograph? Send us a copy. Are you an artist with
limited edition prints? We need one, please. Do you have
a garage or basement full of “extra” things you know you
will never use? Send them to us. Are you a company that
could send a product that our bidders will drool over?
We’d love to have it.
We get a bigger crowd of anxious bidders each year, and
a growing list of needs. Don’t think that no one would
want your product – you wouldn’t believe the things we
sell.
Since our youth are our future in the outdoors, help
POWA get them started. We appreciate any help you can
give. This year’s auction is Sunday, February 14, 2010.
